“Thank You” From Child Life and Pediatric Staff

January 25th, 2010

holiday2009-021The holiday spirit was in full force from the many benefactors who donated toys, clothing and other items to our Pediatric patients over the holiday season. More than 30 organizations, as well as individual families and hospital employees, brought smiles to our young patients - from infants through adolescents - by their generosity.

Some of the many benefactors included Connor Mullen, the young friend of Marie Eagan, R.N., PACU, who collected Matchbox cars through a school toy-drive and delivered them along with some of his favorite Rescue Heroes.

Another benefactor is the Chiarella Family, who annually collects toys, crafts and stuffed animals to brighten the hospital stay of our children. This drive is in memory of their beautiful daughter Gia. This year, the Chiarella’s filled 11 laundry bins with treasures brought in a moving van by the family.

Even the Cadbury Seniors stuffed Build-A-Bears for our young patients.

Instead of exchanging gifts with their family members, the Draeger Family made and donated 50 colorful fleece blankets in the true spirit of the season.

There were several heartwarming contributions by our hospital staff. The Health Information Management Department purchased a coat for a deserving pediatric patient, while Tracy Degner, of Orthopedics, and some of her Cooper elves, distributed coloring pages to inpatient and outpatient pediatric offices to occupy boys and girls during their stay. Many of our own pediatric staff, and others within the hospital, sponsored specific patients and families.

The Child Life and Pediatric staff extends a special thank-you to everyone whose thoughtful donations brought cheer to all of our pediatric patients. These contributions allow us to give gifts to our pediatric patients during the holiday season and throughout the year.
